Spicy Oatmeal Cookies

These cookies aren’t overly sweet. The secret to the great flavor is using real butter rather than shortening, and the generous use of spices.

  • ¾ c unsalted butter
  • ¾ c sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2½ cups quick cooking rolled oats
  • 1 cup white unbleached flour
  • ½ t baking soda
  • 1 t baking powder
  • 1 t salt
  • ½ t cinnamon
  • ¼ t nutmeg
  • ¼ t allspice
  • 1 c raisons
  • ⅓ c milk, less or more to make a soft dough suitable for drop cookies.

Cream butter and sugar. Stir in eggs, milk and vanilla. Add flours, soda, salt, baking powder,spices and raisons.

Add milk to desired consistency.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto baking sheet. Flatten slightly with a fork dipped in milk.

Bake at 350 for 12 to 15 minutes until slightly browned.
